Why TMT Bars Are Graded?
TMT bars are of the most celebrated construction materials all over the world. It is used in both residential as well as commercial projects. Although there are various grades of TMT bars and a proper understanding of the different grades of TMT bars is very crucial for deciding which grade of TMT bar is best for your project. The use of right grade and best quality TMT bars ensures strength and durability within the project. Different grades of TMT bars are used for different projects and the bars are graded as Fe 415, Fe 500, Fe 550, Fe 600i etc, where the number denotes the amount of stress to be applied in order to deform it.
Let’s discuss the grades briefly –
- Fe415 – This grade is especially used in construction projects in corrosion and earthquake-prone zones due to its high uniform elongation. It can be easily bent into various shapes, making it perfect for small-load constructions. The chemical composition of this grade is 0.30% of Carbon, 0.06% of Sulphur, 0.06% of Phosphorus, 0.110 of S+P
- Fe500 – This type of grade is very commonly used and is regarded as a market standard across many construction projects. This type of grade is used for the construction of building, bridges and other concrete structures as it offer greater tensile strength than Fe 415 along with excellent bendability and high corrosion resistance. The chemical composition of this grade is 0.30% of Carbon, 0.055% of Sulphur, 0.055% of Phosphorus and 0.105% of S+P.
- Fe550 – This grade has almost similar properties of Fe500 but has greater tensile strength and is used in construction projects which are located in coastal, marine and underground environments. The chemical composition of this grade is 0.30% of Carbon, 0.055% of Sulphur, 0.050% of Phosphorus and 0.100% of S+P.
- Fe600 – This type of grade has more yield strength and tensile strength than all other grades of TMT bars. These grades are widely used for the construction of metro projects, towers, plants, expressways and industrial properties. The chemical composition of this grade is 0.30% of Carbon, 0.04% of Sulphur, 0.04% of Phosphorus and 0.075% of S+P.
